Finding Partners for your Library Grant
Many grant applications are often stronger when there is a partnership among organizations. Partners can bring unique skills and knowledge to a grant project and they can provide access to an expanded audience for your project.
Identifying the best partners though is not always easy. You do not want to enter into a partnership on a grant application if goals between partners differ, or if a clear delineation of tasks and a communication plan is not established.
As you work on your grant applications here are some tips for identifying partners:
- Identify organizations who have the same vision as you.
- Find organizations that compliment the work you do.
- Find organizations that fill in gaps in your own work and/or knowledge.
- Locate organizations that expand your reach.
When evaluating potential partners consider:
- What is the organization’s track record with public trust?
- What is the public image of the organization you are considering partnering with?
- What skills will the individuals in the organization bring to the grant?
- Do the individuals in the organization have a collaborative mentality?
Potential partners for library grants include:
- Local K-12 schools
- Universities
- Non-profits
- Museums
- Historical societies
- After-school programs
