Finding Partners for your Library Grant

Finding Partners for your Library Grant

Many grant applications are often stronger when there is a partnership among organizations. Partners can bring unique skills and knowledge to a grant project and they can provide access to an expanded audience for your project.

Identifying the best partners though is not always easy. You do not want to enter into a partnership on a grant application if goals between partners differ, or if a clear delineation of tasks and a communication plan is not established.

As you work on your grant applications here are some tips for identifying partners:

  • Identify organizations who have the same vision as you.

  • Find organizations that compliment the work you do.

  • Find organizations that fill in gaps in your own work and/or knowledge.

  • Locate organizations that expand your reach.

When evaluating potential partners consider:

  • What is the organization’s track record with public trust?

  • What is the public image of the organization you are considering partnering with?

  • What skills will the individuals in the organization bring to the grant?

  • Do the individuals in the organization have a collaborative mentality?

Potential partners for library grants include:

  • Local K-12 schools

  • Universities

  • Non-profits

  • Museums

  • Historical societies

  • After-school programs
